Being able to whip up gravy in a flash has been a dinner saver more than one time in my kitchen.  There are so many kitchen shortcuts that I have learned and I love sharing them with you.  I love being in the kitchen and enjoy spending time creating fantastic dishes my family and friends will go crazy over.

5 Minute Brown Gravy

Homemade gravy is one of my favorite shortcuts in the kitchen. This 5 Minute Homemade Brown Gravy recipe will be a meal saver. All you need is this simple recipe, no packet needed.

prep time: cook time: 5 minstotal time: 5 mins

  • 2 cups water
  • 4 teaspoons beef bouillon powder (or 4 beef bouillion cubes)
  • 1/4 cup unsalted butter
  • 1/4 cup all-purpose flour
  • 1 teaspoon onion powder
  1. Combine water and bouillon in a heat proof container (I use my glass 2-cup measuring cup). Heat the beef broth in microwave 1 minute at a time, until it is steaming hot.
  2. Meanwhile, melt the butter in a medium saucepan over medium heat, add flour and onion powder and whisk to combine. Continue whisking until mixture bubbles up and becomes a thick consistency, about one minute. This helps cook out the ‘floury’ taste.
  3. While whisking, pour in hot beef broth to the flour mixture. Whisk to combine and bring to boil, reduce to simmer for 1 minute.
  4. Serve and enjoy!

DONNA’S NOTES

  1. You can use chicken or beef stock or broth in place of the bouillion and water. Be sure to heat well.

  3. Chicken or beef base also work in this recipe in place of the bouillion.
